Lower Hollyburn Trail

Cypress Mountain, North Vancouver

The Lower Hollyburn Trail is a series of trails on the mid point of Cypress Mountain.  The trail Crosses and joins the Baden Powell, and Trans Canada Trail.

This is a beautiful area with a decent climb.  While we were on the lower end of the trial it was raining lightly.  On the higher trail there was decent snow up to a couple of feet deep.  As we hiked the mist hung in the tops of the trees.  There were many bridges and streams, some had to be crossed carefully.  The trail was well maintained but at times difficult to follow, as it was not well marked.

After we had hiked for a number of hour and were ready to head back we had difficulty finding our way.  We were on a trail but were not sure if it was the correct trail or if we had gone too far.  We knew we were hiking a square and had an idea of around where we should be.  As we had exhausted ourselves and it was beginning to get dark we decided to go off the trail, something we never do.  We always carry safety gear and could have spent the night but that is something we would prefer not to have to do.  We headed south west, to where we believed the car to be.  Following the compass and a creek we made our way and finally hit a trail.  The trail was going our way so we followed it, thankfully as we had further exhausted ourselves hiking through the bush.  To our disbelief the trail lead strait to our car.  And not a moment too soon.
