Deer Lake

Deer lake is a great spot in spring and late Fall.  At this time there are not many campers and there are no camping fees.  The fee schedule can be checked on the BC Parks website.  I don't like paying for camping and I don't like the crowds so this is a great spot.

There is a hiking trail on either side of the lake but the trail does not connect.  The trail on the right side of the lake is easy at first but becomes quite treacherous.  It appears as though the trail has not been maintained in many years.  There are logs, rock slides, and small stream/waterfalls across the path.  On the far side of the lake we tried to join to the other trail to do a full loop but there is devils club, marsh and a deep stream so we though it better to return the way we came.  We have not tried the trail on the left side of the lake but we left that for next time
When we camped here it was beautiful and sunny.  At night the sky was filled with a million stars.  We were awoke in the middle of the night because it had snowed and the tent was only a couple inches above us from the weight of the snow.  Because it was so nice I had not properly set up the tent properly attaching all the flies.  I had ti get out of the still warm tent at about 4 am in the wet snow and set the tent up properly.  Lesson learnt.
